"He first found his own brother"
The First and Nearest Β· proton Β· G4413 Β· GREEK
First β first in time, first in order; here marking the immediate, instinctive action of going to the one closest to you
The word "first" is significant: before Andrew did anything else, before he went to strangers or the crowds, he went to his brother. This is not strategy β it is love. When something life-changing happens to you, the first person you think of is the person you love most. Andrew's evangelism was not a program; it was the natural overflow of someone who had found something too good to keep to himself. He started with Simon β and Simon became Peter, the rock on whom the church was built.
π John 4:28β30 Β· She Left Her Jar and RanThe woman at the well had a conversation with Jesus that changed everything about her. She discovered he knew her fully β five husbands, a complicated life β and loved her anyway. She found in him "living water" that would become a spring welling up to eternal life.
She left her water jar and went back into town. She didn't stop to prepare a speech or plan her approach. She simply said: "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Can this be the Christ?"
The town came out to see. And many believed β first because of her testimony, then because of their own encounter with Jesus.
Andrew and the woman at the well are the same person: immediate, instinctive, unpolished witnesses who went first to the people nearest them. Neither of them had a theology degree. Both of them knew what they had found. That was enough.
"We have found the Messiah"
The Discovery of a Lifetime Β· Messias Β· G3323 Β· ARAMAIC/GREEK
Messiah β the Anointed One, the long-expected deliverer, the one Israel had been waiting centuries for; used by Andrew as a personal discovery, not a theological category
Andrew did not say "I have found a rabbi" or "there is a prophet worth listening to." He used the most loaded word in all of Jewish history: Messiah. The Anointed One. The one they had been waiting for since the prophets. And he used the word "found" β as if the Messiah were something you search for and discover, not just passively receive. Andrew had been looking, actively, for the hope of Israel β and he was telling his brother: the search is over.
π Luke 2:25β30 Β· Simeon Had Waited All His Life for ThisSimeon was old. He had lived his whole life under a promise β the Holy Spirit had told him he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Messiah. For years, perhaps decades, he had waited.
When Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple, Simeon took the child in his arms. And he said: "Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation."
My eyes have seen it. This is what Andrew felt by the Jordan. The search that Israel had been running for five hundred years β Andrew felt it land. "We have found the Messiah."
He didn't have a systematic theology to offer his brother. He had a personal discovery: I was looking, and I found him. Come and see.
"He brought him to Jesus."
The Three-Word Mission Β· ago Β· G71 Β· GREEK
To bring, to lead, to take β the act of actively moving someone from where they are toward the one they need to meet
Three words in English, one in Greek: ago. He led. He took. He brought. Andrew did not spend years praying for his brother without ever speaking. He did not give Peter a book about Jesus or an argument for God's existence. He simply brought him β created proximity between his brother and the Lord. This is the whole of witness distilled to its essence: get the people you love into the same room as Jesus, and let Jesus do what only Jesus can do. Andrew brought one man to Christ. That man changed the world.
π Mark 2:1β5 Β· Four Friends and One RoofA man was paralyzed. He had four friends who believed Jesus could heal him. They carried him to the house where Jesus was teaching. The crowd was too thick to get through. So they climbed to the roof and dug a hole through it and lowered their friend down to Jesus.
The text says: "When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.'"
Their faith. The four friends' faith is what got the paralytic to Jesus. The paralytic didn't even speak. He just arrived β carried by people who believed enough to do something extraordinary to get him there.
Andrew brought his brother by the hand. The four men brought their friend through a roof. The method doesn't matter. The destination β Jesus β is the whole point. "He brought him to Jesus" is the entire calling of every follower of Christ.

- β¦ My testimony does not need to be polished β it only needs to be true: I have found the Messiah. (John 1:41)
- β¦ I will bring people to Jesus and trust him to do what only he can do when they arrive. (Matthew 28:19β20)
Prayer
Father, give me the instinct Andrew had β the first thought after encountering you being "I need to go get someone." Help me see the people in my life the way Andrew saw Simon: as someone who doesn't yet know what I now know. Give me the courage to find them, speak to them honestly, and bring them to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Think about it
Who is the "brother or sister" in your life right now β the nearest person β who needs to hear "we have found the Messiah"? What would it look like to bring them closer to Jesus this week?
I will go find the nearest person and tell them honestly what I have found β and trust Jesus to do the rest.
