The Hebrew verb shub (ืฉืืึผื) appears more than 1,050 times in the Old Testament โ more than almost any other verb โ and carries the full weight of what it means to turn: turning away โ the decisive reorientation away from sin and wrong direction, the physical movement that true repentance requires, turning toward โ the relational return to God, the covenant comeback that He invites, receives, and responds to with His own turning, and being turned back โ the mysterious grace in which God Himself initiates and enables the very return He calls us to make. Shub is not a feeling. It is a direction change โ and the prophets use it as their most urgent, most repeated plea.
