gibbôr · H1368 · HEBREW
The Hebrew word gibbôr (גִּבּוֹר) describes one of surpassing might and valor — a champion warrior whose strength sets him apart from all others, capable of feats that ordinary men cannot achieve, a divine fighter who goes out on behalf of His people — the warrior-God who makes your battle His own and stirs up His zeal to fight it, and the defender of the powerless — the mighty one who comes not only to win but to save, and who stays to sing over those He has rescued. In Isaiah 9:6, God's Messiah receives the name El Gibbor — the Mighty God — declaring that the champion who would come would be nothing less than God Himself going to war.
